PEF GRANTS IN ACTION: Last week, JWMS 7th Grade Design and Engineering students discovered the validity of their design concepts and scientific theories in a uniquely impactful way. Students combined scientific principles such as mass, force, acceleration, and aerodynamics with hands-on design skills to construct CO2-powered dragsters. JWMS teacher, Matthew Halfacre, with a grant from PEF and the valued support of our corporate sponsor, Bristol Meyers Squibb, took his students' knowledge of engineering from concept to reality by adding an electronic CO2 dragster raceway system his curriculum. The dragsters were raced and timed in individual class races, and the students saw first-hand how their specific designs affected the speed of the dragster.
